Five dead in Israeli strike in West Bank, Palestinian Red Crescent announces

New deadly bombardment by the Israeli army in the West Bank. The Palestinian Red Crescent reported, on Wednesday, September 11, the death of five people in Israeli strikes in Toubas, in the north of this occupied territory where the Hebrew State is intensifying its colonization policy.

These deaths are “the result of Israeli bombardments against a group of citizens in Toubas”, declared the spokesman for the Red Crescent, Ahmed Jibril.

AFP was not able to confirm this toll independently. The Red Crescent specified that the strikes had taken place near the Al-Tawhid mosque in Toubas.

The Israeli army, for its part, indicated that it was “currently carrying out anti-terrorist activities in the regions of Toubas and Tamoun” and that one of its planes had “struck an armed terrorist cell” in the area of Toubas, in the north of the West Bank.

At the end of August, Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Toubas, the neighboring cities of Jenin and Tulkarem and their refugee camps, where armed groups fighting against the Israeli occupation are particularly active.

“A new front is being opened”
This Israeli attack comes as the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, warned on Tuesday against the risk of seeing the West Bank “transform into a new Gaza Strip”.

Israel has stepped up deadly military operations in the West Bank in recent weeks, a Palestinian territory it has occupied since 1967 and where violence with Israeli settlers has also increased.

“A new front is being opened with a clear objective: to transform the West Bank into a new Gaza Strip, increasing violence, delegitimizing the Palestinian Authority and encouraging provocations to respond with force and not being afraid to tell the world that the only way to achieve a peaceful resolution of the conflict is to annex the West Bank and Gaza,” said Josep Borrell.

Speaking in Cairo where he was participating in a ministerial meeting of the Arab League, he accused “extremist members of the Israeli government (…) of trying to make the creation of a future Palestinian state impossible.”

“Without action, the West Bank will become a new Gaza. And Gaza will become a new West Bank, while groups of settlers prepare new colonies,” he warned, regretting that “the international community deplores, feels, experiences but has difficulty acting.”
