Taiwanese Foreign Minister’s Diplomatic Visit To Czechia

Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu begins a visit to the Czech Republic on Tuesday. He will meet Senate President Miloš Vystrčil (ODS) for about an hour. On Wednesday, he will take part in a security conference in Prague where he will speak just after it was opened by Czech President Petr Pavel. An informal dinner with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Markéta Pekarová Adamová (TOP 09) is also planned.

This is the second time that Joseph Wu has visited the Czech Republic. During his first visit in 2021, he had attended a conference organized by the Sinopsis project. The Czech Republic has shown its support for Taiwan for several years. The Speakers of both Houses of Parliament, Miloš Vystrčil and Markéta Pekarová Adamová, both visited the island. In addition, President Petr Pavel spoke by telephone with President Tsai Jing-wen the day after her election.

Joseph Wu’s visit to Prague is part of a trip to other European countries. Last week, China warned European countries against any official contact with Taiwanese officials and against any support for “forces promoting Taiwanese independence”.
