Moroccan Singer Saad Lamjarred Faces Rape Charges

From this Monday, February 20, the Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred is tried for aggravated rape by the Court of Assizes of Paris for facts dating back to October 2016.

The facts date back to 2016. The Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred is judged from this Monday, February 20 by the Court of Assizes of Paris for acts of aggravated rape dating from 5 years ago, reports France Info. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

Alcohol And Cocaine

The complainant, Laura P, had filed a complaint shortly after the events, which occurred in October 2016. So in the evening in Paris, the young Iséroise had shared part of her evening with the singer and a couple of friends. Accompanying him to his hotel around 6 o’clock in the morning, she is surprised that the couple of friends do not join them there. According to her account, the singer hits her, pulls her by the hair and forces her to have sex.

The maid who took in the 20-year-old girl describes a frightened and crying person, wearing a torn t-shirt. A little later, the doctors will find that she suffers from numerous bruises and that the DNA of her alleged rapist is in her underwear. The tenors of the Parisian bar, Thierry Herzog and Jean-Marc Fedida, defend the 37-year-old man. He was 31 at the time, and his alleged victim 20.

She explains that the singer was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time of the facts. He denies the accusations and delivers a different version. According to him, she started scratching him as they got closer and then hurt herself “with something”, causing the bruising, tearing of the t-shirt and swelling of her upper lip.

Support From Morocco

Of Moroccan nationality, the singer was supported by King Mohammed VI in 2016 in his defense. The leader had then put him in touch with Eric Dupond-Moretti, then a lawyer. Placed in police custody that year, in October, he enjoyed royal support thanks to his family’s closeness to the Moroccan monarchy.

Placed in police custody shortly after the events, he was released on condition of wearing an electronic bracelet in April 2017. He has since been forced to remain on French territory. Other files link him to accusations of sexual assault. In 2010 in particular, he was accused by a young American, accusing him of facts that took place in circumstances similar to those described by Laura P.

The singer remains popular in Morocco, our colleagues indicate that fans of Saad Lamjarred have gone so far as to threaten Laura P on the internet.
