An emblematic plane of the landings
The program was busy this Wednesday. Nice celebrated the 80th anniversary of its liberation on August 28, 1944. First, residents were able to watch a parade of American vehicles from World War II in the streets of the Côte d’Azur city. The convoy, which left from Saint-Laurent-du-Var, drove to Place Masséna via Avenue Jean-Médecin around 11 a.m.
The commemorative ceremony was held at 6:30 p.m. at the War Memorial, not far from Rauba Capeù. Shortly before, three propeller planes flew over the area. Here is the video:
They were a C-47B DC-3 Dakota (the largest in the images), an emblematic plane of the landings, and two T-6G Texans, used during World War II.
