Pope Francis calls for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

Pope Francis has reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, following the deaths of seven aid workers in an Israeli strike.

In a speech this Wednesday, Pope Francis once again called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. His statement comes after seven aid workers were killed in an Israeli strike on Tuesday while distributing humanitarian aid in the region. The Pope expressed his deep sadness at this tragic loss and offered his prayers to the bereaved families.

The head of the Catholic Church also stressed the vital importance of guaranteeing access to humanitarian aid for the civilian population suffering from the devastating consequences of the conflict. He called for the hostages to be immediately released and for efforts to achieve a ceasefire to be intensified to end the violence and the suffering of innocent people.

In response to the incident, Israel Defense Forces Commander Herzi Halevi said there was “no intention to harm” the humanitarian organization’s volunteers. The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
