Israel-Hamas war: new deadly strikes by the Israeli army in Gaza

The war between Israel and Hamas entered its fourth month on Sunday January 7. The Israeli army carried out further deadly strikes in Gaza and also a raid in the West Bank.

In the Gaza Strip, scenes of bombing have become commonplace. In Rafah, the car of two Palestinian journalists was hit on Sunday January 7. They are deceased. Hundreds of strikes have been carried out by the Israeli army on the enclave for three months. The IDF claims today to have finished dismantling Hamas in the north of the territory. “We have struck and will continue to strike to ensure our successes in these territories. It takes time. There are no shortcuts to fighting terror,” said army spokesman Daniel Hagari.

Operations also in the West Bank

Israel is also continuing its operations in the occupied West Bank. On Sunday morning, a raid in Jenin left six people dead. An Israeli was also killed by the army north of Ramallah. The international community now fears that the conflict could spread abroad. “It is imperative to avoid regional escalation in the Middle East. It is absolutely necessary to prevent Lebanon from being drawn into a regional conflict,” said Josep Borrell, head of diplomacy of the European Union. On Wednesday January 3, Israel already fired on the Lebanese capital Beirut to eliminate Hamas number 2, and is now targeting Hezbollah’s military infrastructure.
