Josep Borrell to participate in high-level Sino-European talks

On Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin announced that the European Union’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, would visit China from Thursday to Saturday and participate in the 12th round of the Strategic Dialogue of high level between China and the EU.

“China welcomes Mr. Borrell and believes his trip will help promote the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations, as well as lay the foundation for future high-level exchanges,” the spokesperson said during the meeting. a regular press conference in Beijing.

According to him, this visit by Josep Borrell, which has been postponed twice since it was announced last April, will also provide new impetus for China and the EU to jointly respond to global challenges and preserve peace and global stability.

Observers note that the visit will provide an opportunity for China and the EU to facilitate mutual understanding through discussions on a wide range of issues, such as practical cooperation, sensitive regional issues and global affairs.

Li Haidong, a professor at the Institute of International Relations affiliated with the China Foreign Affairs University, said economic and trade issues will be among the focal points of discussions during the Chinese foreign minister’s visit. European Union, particularly following the launch on October 4 by the European Commission of an anti-subsidy investigation into the import of electric vehicles from China.

He believes that the ability of both sides to adequately handle this issue will have an influence on the stability and development of China-EU ties.

“There is no doubt that the practice of imposing restrictions on Chinese products while seeking to take advantage of China’s colossal market will not be accepted by the Chinese side,” he explains, adding that cooperation will be a natural outcome when both parties have built mutual trust through communication.

Wang Wenbin said China and the EU share broad common interests, as two major powers for world peace, two major markets for common development and two major civilizations for the progress of mankind.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the EU.

Since the beginning of this year, the two sides have held frequent high-level interactions and engaged in dialogue and cooperation at all levels in different fields, showing positive momentum in China-EU relations.

In a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi last August, Josep Borrell said he was eager to travel to China as soon as possible to jointly prepare for the meeting of Sino-European leaders this year and promote the further development of Sino-European relations.
