European Commissioner Thierry Breton on Tuesday warned businessman Elon Musk, owner of the social network Hamas in Israel.

In a letter dated October 10 addressed to Elon Musk, which he made public on the X network (formerly Twitter), Thierry Breton recalls that European regulations set “precise” obligations concerning content moderation.

“When you are notified of illegal content in the European Union, you must take rapid and objective action and remove this content where justified,” writes the European Commissioner. “We have, from qualified sources, reports of potentially illegal content circulating on your service, despite the warning from the relevant authorities,” he adds.

Thierry Breton urges Elon Musk to respond “precisely and completely” within 24 hours, asking the American billionaire to ensure the effectiveness of the systems in place and to report on the crisis measures put in place.
