European Diplomats Meet Mahamadou Issoufou in Niger

The group of Western diplomats accredited to Niamey, the capital of Niger, is continuing a series of meetings to achieve a rapid return to constitutional order.
On Saturday July 29, 2023, European diplomats met the former President of the Republic of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou, who has been very discreet since the coup d’état.

The European ambassadors reaffirmed that President Mohamed Bazoum remains the one and only legitimate President of the Republic of Niger.

“The EU in TeamEurope format has met Mahamadou Issoufou and expressed its concern about the current events. The EU does not and will not recognize the authorities resulting from the coup in Niger. Mohamed Bazoum, democratically elected, remains the only legitimate President,” announced European diplomacy, which has been very active since the coup.

After the outings hostile to the ruling junta of France and the United States, the president of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (CNSP), General Abdourahmane Tchiani insisted on recalling that Niger remains a sovereign country which will not yield not under pressure. “We are surprised to see the reaction of France, European Union and African Union. We want to remind them that Niger is a sovereign country and no foreign pressure could divert us from the objectives that the CNSP has set for itself,” General Abdourahmane Tchiani wrote on Twitter.
