Morocco’s open data policy is doing well and gaining ground globally. According to the High Commission for Planning (HCP), the Kingdom has improved its position in the 2022 Open Data Index (ODIN) world ranking.
Indeed, during its 2022 session, the Open Data Watch (Open Data Watch) ranked Morocco 25th out of 193 in the Open Data Index (ODIN), the High Commission recently announced.
Given this new position, a marked improvement compared to the year 2021 when it was ranked 41st out of 178 countries, Morocco has thus consolidated its world rank and its leadership on a continental scale.
Public Institution Headed
In a press release, the public institution headed by Ahmed Lahlimi Alami notes that “with its new ranking, Morocco maintains its leadership in Africa and is positioned at the forefront of developing and emerging countries and beyond. of the “.
Another clarification, which deserves to be brought to the attention of all, is that it “outclasses several of the most developed countries such as Switzerland, Japan, France, Australia and Italy”, as the also underlined the body responsible for the production, analysis and publication of official statistics in Morocco.
It should be noted that this classification took place after the evaluation made by the Open Data Observatory “of the level of quality of the data and metadata produced by the High Commission for Planning (HCP) and published through its institutional website (www.hcp.ma)”, indicates a press release from the Institution.
According to the same source, Morocco “has also achieved the 7th score in terms of “Coverage”, one of the components of the ODIN index and this, on the basis of the level of sectoral, thematic and territorial coverage of statistics produced by the HCP,” it was pointed out.
For the High Commission for Planning, this performance constitutes an international recognition of the quality and diversity of Morocco’s statistical information.
This new ranking also recognizes “the multiplicity and user-friendliness of its dissemination media, driven in particular by the renovation of its institutional website and its new Statistical Databases, in particular the one known by the acronym BDS and the platform dedicated to indicators on our country’s achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), “said the HCP from the same source.
As noted in its press release, “it comes in the wake of the regionalized duplications of these statistical databases and the launch of the process of preparing Regional Reports on the SDGs, inaugurated in 2022 in the two regions of Tangier-Tetouan. -Al Hoceima and Casablanca-Settat, which makes Morocco the fifteenth country in the world to have initiated the process of territorialization of the SDGs”.
