Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar Attends EU-Israel Association Council in Brussels

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar arrived in Brussels today to participate in the 13th session of the EU-Israel Association Council at the European Parliament. The meeting aims to discuss bilateral relations between Israel and the European Union (EU).

The session is co-chaired by Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, alongside Saar. Dubravka Šuica, Commissioner for the Mediterranean, and representatives from EU member states are also present.

Key Discussions on EU-Israel Relations

The EU-Israel Association Council serves as a high-level platform for dialogue on political, economic, and security cooperation between both parties. This year’s meeting focuses on strengthening diplomatic ties, trade relations, and regional security concerns.

One of the main points of discussion is the allocation of EU funds, with Saar urging the EU to ensure its financial aid does not support activities linked to terrorism.

Saar Meets European Parliament President

On the sidelines of the event, Saar held a meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. He raised concerns over salaries reportedly paid by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to individuals involved in terrorism.

“The EU must ensure that its funds do not contribute to such objectives,” Saar stated, emphasizing Israel’s demand for transparency in financial aid distribution.

The EU-Israel Association Council remains a crucial mechanism for fostering collaboration and addressing key issues impacting both parties.
