Ukrainian Foreign Minister Announces Resignation

Government reshuffle in Ukraine. The head of diplomacy, Dmytro Kuleba, one of the great voices of his country since the beginning of the Russian invasion, presented his resignation to Parliament on Wednesday, September 4, according to the speaker of the assembly. “I ask you to accept my resignation,” wrote, in a letter, the popular 43-year-old minister, who has held this post since 2020. The letter was published on social networks by the speaker of the Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk.

His departure comes in the midst of a reshuffle of the Ukrainian government. At least six Ukrainian politicians, including ministers, presented their resignations on Tuesday, according to the ruling party. The deputies, who must ratify the resignation of Dmytro Kuleba, will examine his request in the coming days, Ruslan Stefanchuk specified. The parliamentarians should accept his resignation, barring any surprises, while rumors of such a departure have been circulating in recent weeks.

No reason was given for the minister’s resignation, but a senior source in the Ukrainian presidency interviewed by Agence France-Presse (AFP) had recently criticized the functioning of his ministry. In addition, a statement by Dmytro Kuleba about the historical differences between Kiev and Warsaw provoked a wave of negative comments across Poland in August, a new episode of tensions with this key ally of Ukraine against Russia.
