Situation in Palestine: President Abbas arrives in Russia today for an official visit

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to visit Russia from August 12-14 and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, during an official visit during which Abbas is expected to advocate for a two-state solution to ensure peace in the Middle East.

“The guarantee of stability and security in the Middle East lies in the implementation of the decision on the formation of two states, based on international law, the withdrawal [of the Zionist entity] from the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Abbas said in an interview with the Russian news agency “TASS.”

The Palestinian leader said he believes that the current extremist Zionist government “does not believe in peace and positions itself above international law, which aggravates the situation in the Middle East.”

As evidence, he continued, the “massacres, genocide and ethnic cleansing carried out by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem, as well as its attacks on neighboring countries” should be cited.

“If [the Zionist entity] wants to live in security and peace with its neighbors as a normal and peaceful state, it must accept the implementation of the two-state solution based on an international legal framework, including the Arab Peace Initiative,” Abbas added.

Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal told TASS on Sunday that Abbas is scheduled to pay an official visit to Russia from August 12 to 14 and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

The Palestinian diplomat added that President Abbas will discuss with President Putin ways to support efforts to “put an end to the ongoing aggression against our people and to provide immediate humanitarian aid to the stricken Strip.”
