“Union”: this is what Jordan Bardella, the president of the National Rally, advocated during his party’s meeting in Royan, in Charente-Maritime, this Saturday, April 13 in the race for the European elections.
After meetings in areas historically more favorable to the far right, such as Marseille, Montbéliard (Doubs) and Lécluse (Nord), the president of the RN ventured Saturday afternoon into a constituency where the party’s candidate had been beaten (with 48% of the vote) by the majority candidate in the 2022 legislative elections.
“I would like to address, today, those French people who believed for a long time that they were protected from the disintegration of France. To this France that had, until now, the feeling of being well,” Jordan Bardella said from the podium of the Royan convention center.
“We will not change the situation of the country with votes of habit, we will not straighten out France by always voting for the same people”, he argued, repeating several times the slogan “unity makes France”.
“To the conquest of the West”
The candidate, favorite of the polls which credit him with about 30% of the voting intentions for the election of June 9, targeted in particular “these elites who discover that we make the right diagnosis and sometimes that we have the right measures, but who perhaps do not yet dare to take the step”.
“I say to them: free yourselves from conformism, from ready-made thinking, join us and dare the patriotic reflex”, declared the 28-year-old candidate.
Criticizing “mass immigration” at length, the RN leader also castigated “punitive ecology”, denouncing for example the offshore wind projects which according to him risk “disfiguring” the Charente coastline.
He also took advantage of this meeting to thank the former police unionist Mathieu Vallet, whom he presents “as a product of the republican meritocracy” “witness to the savagery of the country” for his rallying to the RN list in the European elections.
Some 2,000 people were present according to the candidate, 1,300 according to the security service of the Royan convention center.
“The west is a territory on which we are progressing and we wish to set out to conquer the west”, had warned Jordan Bardella a few hours earlier during a press briefing in Blaye (Gironde).
