Turkish Diplomatic Dialogue: Catherine Colonna & Hakan Fidan Interview

Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, spoke on August 17, 2023 by telephone with her Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan.

She expressed France’s deep concern over the unauthorized construction of a road in Cyprus, leading from the occupied northern part of the island to the village of Pyla via the UN buffer zone.

Such a construction in fact contravenes the authority exercised by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFCHYP) over the buffer zone and undermines the restoration of the confidence necessary for the urgent resumption of negotiations with a view to a just and lasting settlement of the Cyprus question, within the framework endorsed by the United Nations Security Council.

The two Ministers also discussed the situation in the Black Sea and the issue of grain exports from Ukraine following Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea Initiative.
