In a related context, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh called on the European Union to “end the policy of double standards which encourages Israel to continue its aggression, and to take punitive measures against Israel to end its violations of international law and international humanitarian law in Palestine.”

This emerged from the meeting he had in his office in the city of Ramallah, in the West Bank, with a delegation from the European Parliament led by the Member of Parliament responsible for relations with Palestine, Margrete Auken, and in the presence of the Union’s representative in Palestine, Sven Kon von Burgsdorff, according to a press release issued by Shtayyeh’s office and viewed by Anadolu.

The Palestinian Prime Minister accused Israel of trying to disrupt the visit of the European Parliament delegation to Palestine, by arresting and deporting a Spanish MP and not granting a residence visa to another member of the delegation, believing that this behavior is “unacceptable and that Israel must not be allowed to be above the law.”

For their part, the members of the European delegation affirmed “the faith of the European Union and their countries in the principle of the two-state solution aimed at establishing a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967.”

The Palestinian health ministry said earlier Wednesday that 10 Palestinians had been killed and dozens more injured after the Israeli army stormed the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
