EU Concerned With Recent Developments In Tunisia

The European Union said it was following recent developments in Tunisia closely and with concern, in a press release published on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, affirmed that the European Union hopes that the Tunisian authorities will be able to find “adequate responses to the many current challenges and future of the country”.

“As a long-standing partner, we are also very concerned about the deterioration of the economic situation, in particular, and the social impact that this may cause. It is crucial that the different political and social forces in Tunisia work together on a common and inclusive project for the country,” stressed Josep Borrell.

The European Union, notes the press release, is ready to support Tunisian efforts for the urgent structural reforms that the country will undertake. In this context, the High Representative announces that he is in contact with his European colleagues and that he plans to discuss Tunisia with them at the next Foreign Affairs Council in March.
